You need to see code 846 on the transcript (or updated status on WMR) for this to be the case. While in this stage, our Call Center representatives have no further information about your return. Your actual refund will be paid or direct deposited by March 3rd, 2025. In most cases refund payments will come a few days earlier, especially if your payment method is direct deposit.
Check the status of your state tax refund
If you don’t receive your refund within 15 days, call your bank. We processed your return and adjusted the refund amount that you claimed. You will receive correspondence explaining the adjustment. This refund status will continue to display until your return posts to our system. When it does, your refund status will automatically update.
I filed an amended return. Can I use the Check Your Refund Status tool to see my refund status?
After entering your information, you will also have the option of being notified by text or email when the status of your tax return changes. You may only view the status of 2018 or later year returns. If you requested to receive your refund in the form of a check, you’ll receive this status message when we’ve scheduled your refund check to be mailed. When you submit your tax return, it will go through several steps of processing. If the line on your return where you request a refund amount is blank or you entered zero, you have not requested a refund and cannot use our Check Your Refund Status tool.
Why can’t I use the Check Your Refund Status tool?
Several transcripts are now showing a 2/17 or later date for defunds subject to the PATH Hold. Per the example below (ignoring the 810 code) the 150 line shows that the next refund processing date of 02/17 – which is the official date the PATH Act lifts. When you use Check Your Refund Status, you’ll enter information we use to verify your identity. Locate the refund amount you requested on your tax return using the chart below. This status may update to processing again, or you may receive a request for additional information. However this date only indicates the next processing date and does not mean the refund will be paid then.
When will I be able to view my return through the Return Tracker?
You cannot use Check Your Refund Status to view the status of a payment. You may have entered the wrong Social Security number or refund amount. After four attempts using the wrong information, you won’t be able to check your refund status for 24 hours. We receive millions of calls each year from taxpayers requesting more information about their refund statuses.
What time of day do you update refund status messages?
Our Call Center representatives have access to the exact same information we provide to you using our automated tools. If you have trouble obtaining a copy, file Form DTF-505, Authorization for Release of Photocopies of Tax Returns and/or Tax Information, to request a copy from us. If you don’t have a copy of your return, see I don’t have a copy of my tax return. Your return may remain in this stage for an extended period of time to allow us to review. Our automated processing system scans every return for errors and signs of fraud.
